Built in the 1840's, The Lafayette Hotel is a historical landmark. The hotel served as a community centerpiece for the area accommodating the needs of stage lines, travelers, military personnel and local residents. The building has served as a hotel, restaurant, saloon, boarding house, Civil War hospital, private residence, and home to the first telephone exchange, and local newspaper.
The Lafayette is designed in the Federalist style with three levels, sweeping porches and majestic columns. The building has triple brick, fifteen inch thick walls and hand hewn mortise and tenon beams. Twelve fireplaces once provided heat throughout and spectacular over-sized windows open out to the Blue Ridge Mountains and lush valleys of the Piedmont.
We proudly welcome one and all to share in the Lafayette's unique hospitality. A full service restaurant and catering operation is located on the first level with two unique dining rooms, handicapped facilities, and made from scratch regional foods. Six guest rooms are located on the second floor, each with fireplace, individual heating and cooling, and warm country-house decor. As it was in the past, the Lafayette once again offers the best of Virginia; a nineteenth century setting with fine foods, comfort, and hospitality. We are located ten minutes from Shenandoah National Park and with-in one half hour of many historic and interesting sites in the Charlottesville, Shenandoah Valley, and Piedmont areas. Create memories that will last a lifetime in our pleasant and congenial atmosphere.
